Day 30/30

Day 30/30 - whatever tickles your fancy

I cannot believe I'm done with the 30 Day Challenge! it went by a lot faster than I thought it would, even though I skipped a few days and most weekends. it was definitely fun though, and I look forward to finding a new challenge to blog about!

______________________________

as for today's prompt, instead of posting a bunch of pretty pictures of our honeymoon, or what I did last weekend, or tattoos, I'm going to talk... err... type about one of my recent struggles.

I officially became a non-smoker on Tuesday. well, I suppose it was really Monday evening, since that's when I smoked my last cigarette. I wanted to quit last week, but because I was taking a road trip (solo), I didn't want to set myself up for disappointment. I knew there was no way I could travel 5 hours away from home by myself and not smoke during the drive.

I quit last year before my wedding, and I continued to not smoke for about 6 months. I'm not exactly sure why I started back up again, to be honest. I think it was one of those things where I decided that I could possibly smoke ONLY when I was drinking... which turned out to be pretty frequent, considering I started buying them on a regular basis.

let me just tell you... these past two days have NOT been easy, by any means. it's a constant struggle for me. the good thing is though, is that there are no smokers in my office, so I'm not really tempted to bum one. the struggle for me goes way passed the actual physical addiction to nicotine... it's mental as well. I'm so used to the habit of smoking... the oral fixation, the movement of something in my hand, driving in the car. everything I do is associated with when I smoke - I time out my smoke breaks at work every hour, and I smoke as soon as I leave work, and then when I get to the traffic circle by my house. the habit itself is definitely the hardest thing to break.

for now, I am using the nicotine patch to cut out cravings. I've also been stocking up with candy and gum to get my oral fixation taken care of... Gobstoppers, Runts, and Starburst galore! I can't wait to get passed the point where I still feel the need to smoke, for the habit alone. once I get passed that hump, I'll be golden. Sean also bought an electronic cigarette when he quit last year, which seemed to work really well for him, so I might give that a try once I'm done with all three stages of the patches.

I'm really excited about quitting for good. this is something I've been thinking about doing for a long time, and I finally just got fed up with it. not only is it horrible for you (duh!), but I am tired of smelling like an ashtray and having a constant cough. I've pretty much been smoking since I was 17, so needless to stay, my lungs deserve better. I can't wait to workout and not be so out of breath, and the money that I spend on cigarettes will surely become apparent in my bank account soon.

obviously, Sean is super supportive, and since he quit smoking almost a year ago, he's a good person to have around. he knows how hard it is for me, and he is continuously encouraging me. luckily for him, he's never had a problem quitting, and he was actually able to do it cold turkey. I'm so inspired by his will power and I hope that I can make him proud.

anyway, this was kind of a rambling post, but I just wanted to share with everyone. wish me luck, it's going to be tough, but I am more determined now than I've ever been! now I just need to super clean my car so it doesn't reek of cigarettes!

Happy Thursday!

random thoughts

- I am super duper excited about going out of town this weekend. at first, I was a little bummed, because I'll be riding solo and it's a 6 hour drive (Sean has a Ravens game and therefore cannot join me)... but now I'm actually kind of happy to have all that alone time. it's been a very long time since I've gone on a road trip by myself, and I enjoy the time I have in the car to just think and sing at the top of my lungs.

- I also really can't wait to spend time with my cousin and her family. the whole point of going up there is to help out making apple butter, but I'm just using it as an excuse to see one of my favorite people. we've already decided that if the whole apple butter thing is lame, we're going to skip out on it. :)

- you have to go check out Kaley's new blog style! her friend and fellow blogger, Jess, designed it for her! how awesome and gracious is that? if someone wants to redesign The Bear Naked Truth, feel free to let a sister know! haha!

- I just discovered Wordle.net and I am having a blast playing around with different words and layouts. I might use this on the blog somehow. basically, you type in a bunch of words, and the program rearranges them for you - you can change your font and your color scheme and how you want the words arranged. the more times you put the same word in, the bigger it is.

- work has been a huge pain in the ass today. two of my coworkers are both out sick, and therefore, a lot of the work has been placed on my plate today, despite the amount of work I already had planned for today. the other estimator is out sick, and unfortunately, she left a project for me to revise and send over... but the problem is that we do things differently and it's hard to understand where she got some items and how she came up with some figures. ugh. I hate doing other peoples' work.

- I went to my spin class last night for the first time in two weeks and it felt GREAT to get back in there! they've increased the time of the class by 15 minutes (making it a 45 minute class), but the last 15 minutes is all core work. since I already worked out with my trainer, and did PLENTY of ab work, I left the class after the spin portion was over.

my workout with my trainer was awesome last night as well... I was complaining and whining about every single exercise, which means it's working. even though I've been working out for three months, I've only lost 8lbs total. I'm okay with that though, because I feel great and I can tell I'm really toning up in some areas.

- my baby fever is getting worse by the minute. it doesn't help that fall is here and babies have the CUTEST clothes in the fall - little knit hats, leg warmers, and boots. oh my!

- I was really honored to be mentioned on Becca's blog the other day. as a celebration of her 200th blog post, as well as having 100 followers, she posted a bunch of blogs that she loved, and mine was included! how sweet of her to do something different to honor her followers.

Happy almost Friday!
don't forget, I'll be out of town all weekend (including tomorrow), so I probably won't get the chance to post anything. even though I'm itching to finish up the 30 Day Challenge, it'll have to wait until next week! :)

Day 27/30

Day 27/30 - this month, in great detail

well this is kind of a boring (and short) post. since the month of October just began, you can just take a look at Day 26 to see how it's going so far. it's been pretty usual, with the exception of the drunk fest last weekend. :)

the end.
Happy Thursday!

Day 26/30

Day 26/30 - your week, in great detail

oh geez, this is going to be long. and boring. I apologize in advance.
Wednesday, September 29th:
hmm, boring day. got up and went to work. my phone died at work, so that meant I couldn't let my trainer know that I wasn't ready to workout just yet, so I stopped by the gym on my way home to tell her. went home and relaxed. Sean cooked lemon pepper chicken and roasted potatoes for dinner.

Thursday, September 30th:
same shit, different day. worked all day and then went home.

at around 9PM, we heard a thump in the entryway. I got up to see what it was, thinking that Lily's fat ass knocked something over, but I get into the room and see ceiling tiles. on the floor. AWESOME.

apparently, it's been leaking water ALL day long and it finally soaked up the ceiling. and the people who built our house decided it would be a good idea to put ceiling tiles up, and then PLASTER over them. idiots. rip the jagged tiles from the ceiling and put a bucket under the hole to catch the leaking water. take a picture for Facebook, sweep up the mess, and decide to go to bed.

Friday, October 1st:
worked all day. talked to my tattoo artist on Gmail, who told me his kids were sick and that he'd have to reschedule our appointment. totally bummed out. reschedule my appointment for the 16th, since I'll be out of town the 9th.

called insurance company to file a claim for our ceiling.

go home, and then meet up with Kaycie & Adam at The Steakhouse for dinner and drinks. delicious food, excellent conversation.

Saturday, October 2nd:
wake up to the sound of music blaring from the living room and Sean starting to clean. head into the kitchen to start my part of the cleaning. wash the dishes, clean the counters, scrub the sink and the stove, vacuum the floors, mop the floors.

gather all my makeup and head down to Calvert. do Savannah's hair & makeup for her homecoming. gush all over how beautiful she is.

talk to my dad about the possibility of babysitting Wyatt for the evening. he got another babysitter. score. stop at the grocery store and pick up minced garlic, Parmesan cheese, and an onion for Sean's dinner plans. stop at the liquor store and pick up a 12 pack of Bud Light bottles and a giant bottle of Relax Riesling.

head home and rush to get the entryway picked up before Kaycie & Adam come over. take a few boxes of junk out to the garage while Sean vacuums the chair.

Kaycie & Adam arrive, and Sean starts dinner. you can see a recap of the evening here

Sunday, October 3rd:
so hungover. think about making myself puke to get rid of the nausea. decide I really don't feel like throwing up again. ha!

lay on the couch ALL DAY LONG watching football. Sean makes frozen pizza for lunch, and I snack the rest of the day.

get in bed at 9PM to watch Dexter. love.

Monday, October 4th:
ick, back to the workplace for another week. work all day and then head back into the gym for my first training session in two weeks! super excited. hop on the scale and realize I lost 4lbs since the last time I weighed myself. sweeeeeet! awesome workout, and treat myself to Subway for dinner. stop at the laundry mat to pick up our comforter on the way home. get home and eat my sub, then put away all the laundry Sean washed. head to bed early.

Tuesday, October 5th:

head over here to see the entire 30 Day Challenge!
Happy Wednesday!

Day 25/30

Day 25/30 - your day, in great detail

woo, this should be interesting... NOT. just a typical Tuesday here in my world - working all day long! but don't worry, this will be in GREAT detail. I'm going to chronicle every single thing I do today! in fact, this will probably be the longest post I've ever done. eeks!

__________________________

6:30AM - vaguely remember Sean leaving for work, and reminding him to get the grocery list from the living room. I love when he leaves, because then I sprawl out all over the bed and steal his pillow.

7:30AM - my alarm goes off for the first time, and I think to myself "fuck this noise," and reset it for 8.

8:00AM - the alarm goes off again and I seriously contemplate throwing it out the window. I lay in bed thinking how I could possibly get out of work for the day, and quickly come to realize that I can't. I have to take off work Friday to go out of town, so I have to get my lazy ass up.

8:05AM - brush my teeth and wash my hair. try to figure out what to do with this mess of a head. decide I'll just braid a small portion on the side and pull it up halfway. also decide that I don't feel like putting my contacts in today. I can't wait until I'm rich enough for Lasik.

8:20AM - do my makeup and decide that today is a lipstick day. oh, that reminds me, my plaid button-up shirt is clean. I think I'll wear it today with my new red flats, which will look cute with glasses and lipstick.

8:30AM - get dressed. plaid button up shirt, flared jeans, red flats, and diamond stud earrings.

8:37AM - notice the time on the news, which I've been listening to for the weather report. crap, I'm running late, AGAIN.

8:42AM - grab a banana for breakfast and a Diet Cherry Pepsi and Snack Pack for lunch. pet the kitties before I leave. rush out the door. shit, I need my keys.

8:59AM - take a picture of myself in the car with my cell phone (I'm a safe driver, I swear), because I feel like I look cute today. I love lipstick because it makes my teeth look super white.

9:13AM - finally get to work. perfect timing too, because my dad (aka boss man) is on his way out the door for a meeting in VA. sweet!

9:20AM - start my computer and log in to the websites I browse all day long (Gmail, Facebook, The Nest, Google Reader).

9:25AM - get an email from Etsy saying that Kaley's birthday present has shipped! yay! :)

9:30AM - eat my banana and a strawberry Activia yogurt.

9:33AM - Gchat with Kaley about her birthday plans and other stuffs, including the possibility of having dinner together this week before I go out of town. I miss her face!

9:45AM - receive a call on my cell phone from my home insurance adjuster. a portion of our ceiling collapsed during a big rain storm last week, and I need him to come out to give me an estimate of what damages they will cover to be repaired. he realizes that he's been assigned to my claim because of my mailing address, not my residence address, which means he'll have to get someone else to call me back. also, my deductible is $1,000. awesome.

10:00AM - catch up on reading blogs in my Google Reader. when the cat's away, the mouse will play.

10:20AM - go outside to smoke a cigarette, and take my new book with me. I'm loving it so far! I'm happy Kathy recommended it to me, because I'm finding it really difficult to put it down.

10:30AM - get to work. start on the site work estimate for the project I started yesterday. it's three additions to a nursing center in Solomon's Island. need to make sure I get it out by at least 2PM today, since the bid goes into the owner at 4PM.

10:42AM - answer the phone about a billion times. we put an ad in the paper for an administrative assistant, and for some reason, they included our phone number in the ad. talk to Tara about changing the online ad to only list our email for resumes.

11:00AM - call Sean to tell him about the insurance adjuster debacle.

11:14AM - start to get really pissed about all the fucking fruit flies in my office. WHERE ARE THEY COMING FROM!!?!?

11:20AM - continue to work on the project on Solomon's.

12:00PM - starting to get a little hungry, so I get together with the other girls in the office to decide what we're going to eat for lunch. we pick Jerry's Subs & Pizza. I order an 8" turkey sub.

12:10PM - finish all the concrete calculations and price up the project.

12:30PM - eat lunch! it's delicious! sneak a few french fries from a coworker. I'm treating myself because somehow I lost 4lbs in 2 weeks, even though I didn't go to the gym at all. I guess hacking up my lungs burns a lot of calories!

12:54PM - get a Gchat from Sean saying he bought these water bottles for us. he's cute.

1:00PM - start to get the rumblings in my belly. I think it's time for a trip to the bathroom. taking Pillars with me. :)

1:12PM - back from the bathroom and realizing that I never put Pandora on this morning. The Band Perry radio it is for today!

1:30PM - get the okay from the boss on my pricing for the Solomons project. type it up in our proposal format in Microsoft Word. jammin' out to Miranda Lambert on Pandora.

1:41PM - get a phone call from a project manager of a company we do a lot of work for. he has a job he needs a price for. it's not a lot of concrete work (just a renovation), and it's not in our local area, AND the work needs to be done at night. and he needs the quote Friday morning. thanks a lot douchebag, you just made my week a lot harder.

2:04PM - faxed out the bid proposal for the Solomons project. woo!

2:13PM - got a phone call from our new insurance adjuster. he'll be out to look at the damaged ceiling on Saturday at 2PM. since I'll be out of town, Sean will have to deal with it. HA!

2:35PM - awwww shit, I love this song! Break Down Here by Julie Roberts. excellent song. listen to it.

3:13PM - start downloading plans for a new project we will be bidding in the next few weeks. unfortunately, this is part of my daily duties, and it's one of the few things I hate about my job... it's just so tedious. it's just one of those things I have to do in order to keep the work flow coming in. whomp whomp.

3:20PM - just realized that Emily Henderson moved her blog, which means I have like 7 posts to catch up on. I'm not complaining. :)

3:38PM - send aforementioned drawings to our local printer, so that they can be picked up and logged in.

3:39PM - cigarette & Pillars break.

3:46PM - talk to my dad about the stupid renovation project that bids Friday. he thinks we should bid it, because it's with a company that we do a lot of work with. curse him under my breath and start to download THOSE drawings. ugh.

3:56PM - checking out some blogs on my Reader. it's almost empty, so you guys better get to writing! I seriously love the whole blogging world. it's insane how attached I am to some of you! who woulda thought? complete addiction to perfect strangers.

4:23PM - just watched John & Sherry's updated house tour, and DIED laughing at Clara's special goodbye message at the end. babies are hilarious.

4:33PM - checked my bank statements online, set up bill payment for our county water and waste water service. I love modern technology. that reminds me, I need to start searching for filing cabinets, or others ways to store our paperwork. I have a whole pile of bills that need to be put somewhere, but since we technically don't have an "office" yet, they don't have a home.

4:37PM - remember that I forgot to eat my Snack Pack. eating it now.

4:47PM - sent stupid renovation project drawings to the printer.

4:59PM - receive a text from my coworker saying that her daughter's hearing (the one I blogged about yesterday with her homecoming) is down. she is completely deaf in her left ear, and her right ear has been giving her problems. they went to her ear doctor today, and apparently, her hearing in her good ear is now below normal. I'm hoping the steroids they gave her will help. =/

5:10PM - leaving work for the day, finally!

5:55PM - arrive home, give Sean and Bear a kiss and head to the kitchen to wash the dishes that have been sitting in the sink since Saturday night's dinner. talk with Sean about our days and he gives me the run down of everything he bought at the grocery store today, which included pistachios. my man loves me.
6:30PM - finished with the dishes, now taking advantage of my clean house by taking pictures of the living room to post on the blog.

6:40PM - play with the kitties while Sean is cooking dinner in the kitchen.

6:45PM - Sean is finished cooking dinner. ravioli from the produce section accompanied by an olive oil and garlic sauce. fucking delicious.

6:47PM - eat dinner in the living room while watching last night's episode of House.

7:36PM - House is over, and it was good, and sad. go smoke my after dinner cigarette, come back inside and open the computer to finish this blog post.

I'm not going to post anymore of my evening, cause I'm exhausted. I'm pretty much going to watch TV for a little bit, take my Ambien (or NOT, because that's one thing that Sean forgot to pick up at the grocery store), climb in bed, read some Pillars and go to bed. head over here to see the rest of the 30 Day Challenge. I can't believe I'm almost done with it!

Happy Tuesday!

Day 24/30

Day 24/30 - whatever tickles your fancy

I have to say that I'm in a good mood today, despite the fact that it's raining here in DC today, and that it's Monday. we had a great weekend in the FoFandee household, so that's what I'm going to share with you all for today's prompt.

___________________________

Friday evening, we decided to go out to dinner for a little date night. my friend Kaycie called me and said that her and her boyfriend, Adam, were free all weekend, so we invited them to dinner with us at The Steakhouse.

The Steakhouse is one of my favorite restaurants in our area, and it's where Sean and I had our very first date. we chowed down on crab dip and indulged in a few beers and had great conversation, mostly consisting of the three amigos (Sean, Kaycie & Adam) showing off their brand spankin' new Droid X phones. NERDS.

after our meals (I got a house salad with ranch dressing, filet mignon, and a baked potato... nom), we said goodnight and made plans to hang out the next day.

_______________________________

unfortunately, my tattoo artist gchatted me on Friday afternoon and asked if we could reschedule my Saturday afternoon appointment, because his kids were sick. I was totally blown... I had been looking forward to getting my sleeve completed for WEEKS. but I totally understand where he's coming from, since I just dealt with having bronchitis a week ago. the new appointment is October 16th.

since I no longer had plans that took up my entire Saturday, we decided it would be the best time to clean the house. I mean, really clean. not just picking up things here and there, but pulling the couches out and vacuuming the massive amounts of collected cat hair from under. spraying down the oven and scrubbing the bejeesus out of it. mopping the floors on the entire first level of the house. dusting every piece of wood furniture in the living room. clearing out the junk that piles up in the entryway and vacuuming the couch that Lily calls her bed.

I must say, it feels SO good to have the house be spic and span. it took us HOURS to clean, and we didn't even touch the bedroom. now we just have to follow our cleaning schedule to make sure it doesn't get out of control messy again. and I picked up a nice fresh fall inspired bouquet for $12 at the grocery store... which includes white gerbera daisies, orange gerbera daisies, and black eyed susans. SO pretty.

halfway through the day, I drove down to Calvert County to see my adopted little sister, Savannah. her mom and my dad have been friends for about 20 years, and Savannah was a bridesmaid in my wedding. it was her school's homecoming this weekend, so I lent her a dress of mine and offered to do her hair and makeup for her.

I've never done another person's makeup or hair before, so I was a little nervous. luckily, it turned out beautifully and she looked amazing. I did a smokey eye on her, using deep burgundy/red colored eyeshadow... it really made her brown eyes pop. her hair is naturally curly, so I just put a little product in it to calm down the frizz, and curled it all over, ringlet style. she looked absolutely beautiful. these pictures do not do justice. stupid cell phone.

by the time I got home, it was almost time for Kaycie & Adam to come over, so I rushed around to finish cleaning up a little bit, taking some empty boxes out to the garage and vacuuming the entryway. Sean was getting dinner ready when our friends showed up. he cooked the chicken recipe that I posted last week, accompanied by a bacon and garlic risotto. it was SO fucking good. I could have eaten the entire pan of risotto by myself. neither of us had ever had risotto, so it's been something we've been meaning to try, and I'm so glad we did.

after dinner, we continued to drink a little wine (beer for the men folk), and played a few games of Apples to Apples. SO FUN. Sean and I had never played, but we got the hang out things fairly quickly. I won the first game, and Sean the second. I realized that it was more about knowing the judge's personality than picking the right card. it was a blast!

at about 11, we decided to go to down to a nearby bar to surprise one of Kaycie's friends for her birthday. upon our arrival, we realized she had already left and went to another bar down the street, so we followed suit. by the time we got there, the girl had already left that bar too, so we just decided to stay and have some beers. some beers turned into a lot of beers. we played songs on the juke box, danced and sang at the top of our lungs. it was SO much fun. it's been a long time since Kaycie and I have been out and about like that, and we definitely made up for lost time.

______________________________

Sunday was spent nursing a terrible hangover (surprise surprise) and watching football all day. thank the lord, the Ravens and the Redskins both won their games (sorry Eagles fans!)... which means there was no angry yelling in our house yesterday... always a good thing when you've got a wine headache! Bear was extremely lazy yesterday and spent most of the day curled up next to his daddy on the couch.

all in all, it was a fantastic weekend. not only was I productive in getting the house cleaned, but I managed to spend lots of time with one of my best friends and make incredible memories with people I love.

Happy Monday!

Day 23/30

Day 23/30 - a YouTube video

I first discovered this video on vacation in Ocean City, courtesy of Kaycie. I walk around singing this all the time now.

Happy Friday, and you're welcome.

Day 22/30

Day 22/30 - a website

I've been craving new fall clothes lately, so for today, I'm going to give you one of my favorite, albeit, more expensive (for me) clothing stores.

I love Buckle's clothing, and I would probably shop exclusively there if it weren't for their higher than my budget prices. they have SO many clothing items, and their accessories are to die for as well as their shoe inventory.

it wouldn't be a post about clothing without a wish list, so here you have my current wish list of fall items from Buckle.

Happy Thursday!
