Romantic Comedies News:

Violet Wister’s Damsels in Distress (2011) will be distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. The company recently acquired the worldwide distribution rights for Whit Stillman‘s romantic comedy. The movie is starred by Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody, and Analeigh Tipton.
Violet Wister’s Damsels in Distress (2011) follows a trio of beautiful girls: the dynamic leader Violet Wister (Greta Gerwig), principled Rose (Megalyn Echikunwoke) and the sexy Heather (Carrie MacLemore). The three set out to revolutionize life at a grungy East Coast university. They welcome transfer student Lily (Analeigh Tipton) into their group which seeks to help severely depressed students with a program of good scent and musical dance numbers. The girls become romantically entangled with a series of men, including slick Charlie (Adam Brody), dreamboat Xavier (Hugo Becker) and the mad frat pack of Frank (Ryan Metcalf) and Thor (Billy Magnussen), who threaten the girls’ friendship and sanity.
The romantic comedy is written and directed by Whit Stillman. Stillman had directed three movies before, Metropolitan (1990), Barcelona (1994), and The Last Days of Disco (1998), all of which generated favorable reviews.
Sony Pictures Classics have been interested in Stillman’s romantic comedy since the script stage. “We’ve long admired Whit’s films and Violet Wister’s Damsels in Distress marries his unique sensibility with the kind of acerbic comedy audiences love,” the company state.
Violet Wistler’s Damsels in Distress (2011) does not have any release date yet.
